And So it Begins...

Why am I starting a RPG blog. Well, it's very simple.

I have time to blog, because I don't have anyone to play RPGs with.

There, I said it. I feel better now. Wait, no I don't.

Let me tell you a little about myself. I'm just over 40 years old, happily married, two kids, a good job, and basically a very comfortable and happy life. But, the big piece that is missing from my very normal life is my inability to enjoy my favorite hobby: role playing.

Oh, I'm trying. I still try to game with my buddies from high school. The only problem is that between the 4 of us, we have 9 kids under the age of 12 and we all have lives. If we are lucky (and I spend weeks planning), we might be able to game once a month.

With this track record, do you realize how many times I'll be able to role play before I die if we continue at this frequency. Oh, yea, I've done the math:

70 years old - 40 years old = 30 years x 12 months per year (carry the 1) x cosine 0.99985 = 360 game sessions

That is not enough.

The only activities that are getting me through this current drought are: working on game-related stuff (like this blog), playing video games (not the same), and running a play-by-post game on rpol.net (slow, and not the same). It's something, but there is still a huge hole in my yet-beating, RPG heart.

I forgot to mention the crying into my pillow every other night, but I don't know all of you well enough yet.

o.k., enough of my whining. In this blog, I plan to write about my favorite RPG right now (Savage Worlds) and continue to discuss my never-ending quest to game more. It must happen....

Does this problem sound familiar? Leave a comment and let me know.

  1. Have you considered using a Virtual Table Top like Fantasy Grounds II or Maptool. There's a fairly active community, and I know that I would never be able to game if not for this medium. Something to consider.

  2. Yes, I have. I just have never followed through for a bunch of reasons. Since RPGing has such a big social aspect to it, I think it would be hard to game "virtually" unless you already know each other. Maybe not. So, where's a good place to start?

  5. Nice review of LoS. You've helped sway me on picking it up. Also, love the reasoning behind your blog. Totally agree with pretty much everything you said. I look forward to popping in frequently.
